Mind and Destiny

"It is our duty, all of us, everyone who cares to reverse the national decline of our knowledge and understanding of history, and to renew a true appreciation of this great country, why it became great and what will keep it so." -- Sen. Robert Byrd

Destroying Democracy

President Eisenhower said, “The cost of one modern heavy bomber is: a modern brick school in more than 20 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals.”

Furthermore, Eisenhower made the following statement: “Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. The world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hope of its children."

Can you imagine such statements coming from a member of the Bush regime or for that matter one of our Democratic representatives in Congress?

Our politicians profit immensely from funds awarded to corporate enterprises associated with the military-industrial complex. They have bankrupted our nation by allowing our actual national debt to rise to a little over 59 trillion dollars.

Our government’s use of unethical accounting practices that intentionally misinform the American people with respect to unfunded promises to repay Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and an assortment of federal retirement programs.

Lobbyists are highly paid representatives of the corporate world, who converge upon our elected officials and coerce them into conducting business in a manner that usually benefits the rich at the expense of the poor. We are led to believe that our votes count, but our votes frequently elect members of Congress, who are waiting for corporate bribes that will fill their electoral coffers.

A well paid, post retirement position awaits members of Congress, who use their congressional knowledge to bribe those who take their place. This results in a revolving door of immense corruption that is destroying the foundations of our democracy.
