Mind and Destiny

"It is our duty, all of us, everyone who cares to reverse the national decline of our knowledge and understanding of history, and to renew a true appreciation of this great country, why it became great and what will keep it so." -- Sen. Robert Byrd

Deadly Alliance

Sattar Abu Reesha a Sunni sheik was assassinated by a roadside bomb days after meeting with Bush in Iraq. He worked with the our military to fight al Qaeda in the Anbar Province. It’s very dangerous to do business with the Americans in Iraq.

In Iraq, Americans are seen as occupiers and there are certain inherent risks for doing business with them. This is why translators who work for the Americans are being executed in their homes.

Sheik Sattar Abu Reesha was the head of what’s known as the Anbar Salvation Council. Al Qaeda of Iraq has claimed responsibility for the roadside bomb assassination. They have been slaughtering anyone involved in a program, which seeks to bring the Baathist insurgents, who commanded Saddam’s army and intelligence apparatus, to join the fight against al Qaeda. Al Qaeda has used car bombs, bus bombs, suicide chest vest bombers, even chlorine gas bombs to strike at the Sunni, who are working with the Americans.

The Sunni insurgents have the Americans at the negotiating table and are helping us with al Qaeda and Iran. The Baathists offered the Bush regime this deal back in 2003. They pointed out that they hate al Qaeda and that they used to be our allies against Iran. They’re willing to normalize relations, which was the deal the ideologues, who were running the occupation back in 2003 refused.

We’ve seen four years of bloodletting on both sides to get to this point. The Bush regime has finally come around and accepted the Baathists’ offer and so far it’s been successful. It will continue to be successful, because these Sunni insurgents are working to assassinate al Qaeda and they’re not likely to give up, because they face assassination like Sattar Abu Reesha.
