"It is our duty, all of us, everyone who cares to reverse the national decline of our knowledge and understanding of history, and to renew a true appreciation of this great country, why it became great and what will keep it so." -- Sen. Robert Byrd

The Dream Act

Democratic Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois sought to introduce a piece of legislation, in the Defense Authorization Bill. The so called Dream Act would give amnesty to illegal aliens if they came to America as children under the age of 16 and graduated from high school in this country. If they are able to enroll in college or enlist in the military, they could eventually become U.S. citizens. Unfortunately, the bill failed to get enough cloture votes and was pulled from the floor.

Their parents brought these children to America illegally. However, it would be beneficial to our society to allow these children an opportunity to change their immigration status by educational achievement or military service.

CNN’s Lou Dobbs opposed the Dream Act and considers it another form of amnesty that’s open to rampant fraud. He fears illegal aliens could easily claim they were in the United States before the age of 16. However, graduation from high school must be verified, at the time of enrollment in college and enlistment in the military.

With his typical irate blather, Dobbs said: “The very idea, these people are beyond contempt in what they’re trying to do here, trying to avoid the public scrutiny, the transparency of our democratic system and trying to pull this nonsense is disgusting. The American people. I mean I just can’t believe they would do to their constituents and to their oaths of office.”

As an afterthought Dobbs added: “By the way, I do want to say one thing. The Dream Act is an idiotic piece of legislation. But I do agree with one thing. Those young people who are in this country and who want to serve in the United States military and therefore earn their citizenship, then god bless them. And I think that is an absolutely appropriate response and responsibility. But the idea of equating college to military service.

Mr. Dobbs doesn’t approve of children of undocumented aliens having an opportunity to demonstrate superior scholarship and work ethic, but has no problem with these young people becoming gangsters of capitalism and getting their ass blown off in Iraq.
