Mind and Destiny

"It is our duty, all of us, everyone who cares to reverse the national decline of our knowledge and understanding of history, and to renew a true appreciation of this great country, why it became great and what will keep it so." -- Sen. Robert Byrd

Unilateral Executive

In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court has ruled that 20 million public employees do not have free speech protection if they blow the whistle on official misconduct. This is another victory for the White House.

The Bush regime seeks to convince us that our Constitution intended the executive branch to have an excessive concentration of authority during a time of war. This unitary executive theory threatens to expand the president’s powers until the co-equal branches of government the framers of the Constitution intended are obliterated. Under this theory, Bush’s authority cannot be reviewed by the judiciary or challenged by Congress.

The “war on terror” promises to be a perpetual state of war. The implications of this theory extend far into the future. The Bush regime has revamped our carefully balanced constitutional design into a framework ruled by a powerful executive branch with a subservient Congress. A majority of the Supreme Court justices and congressional Republicans foolishly trust Bush to protect us. Absolute power has already corrupted absolutely.
