Shared Hope
On Oct. 21st. it was my privilege to post a letter by disabled Vietnam Veteran Alan D. Kirby of Delhi. He’s able to provide a unique insight into the failed policies of the Bush regime from a very personal perspective. His son-in-law is a Marine serving in Iraq, and we both share a hope that by writing letters to newspapers, our voices will be heard and his son-in-law will soon return home to Mr. Kirby’s daughter and grand daughter.
It’s my privilege to continue to have him use this website to increase the chances of his message being heard. Mr. Kirby suggests that we think about the following:
“In our quest for freedom we set our own benchmarks early in the American Revolution. After George Washington was bounced out of New York by the British, he could have called it quits. He and his army could have dissolved into history as a failed attempt. Our history could be quite different today. He didn't quit nor did he ask our adversaries for more time to strengthen our resolve. We had voted to move toward freedom from King George. We without any lack of resolve, or any lack of sacrifice accepted our responsibility.
Mr. Bush puts forth the argument that 12 million Iraqis voted for democracy, ok they voted that option, but did they accept the responsibility that comes with that vote?
I'm sure George Washington would have appreciated overwhelming military power, but would that make or strengthen our forefathers resolve. We really need that oil don't we?”
